In order to honor the feat of Ukrainian people during the World War II, as a sign of respect for all the fighters over Nazism, to perpetuate the memory of the fallen soldiers May 8th was declared the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation by the Presidential Decree.
Today, 8 May 2015, on the Walk of Fame clerics of different faiths represented in Odessa, made a prayer for all those who died in the struggle over Nazism. The Head of the Odessa Regional State Administration Igor Palitsa, the Mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov, Commander of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Sergei Hayduk, representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, diplomatic missions, national communities and the public came to pay the tribute to the victims of war, war crimes, deportation, and to honor all the fallen soldiers.
At the end of the prayer service the students of Odessa universities released into the sky 200 red and black shaped into poppy balloons - the symbol of the victims of the war.
All participants laid flowers at the monument to the Unknown Sailor in the memory of victims.
