Repair and restoration works of Odessa monument of architecture of local significance are underway.
The City Maiden School was founded in the late XIX century placed in the building. Nowadays Odessa secondary school is functioning here.
The City Maiden School was founded on March 12, 1817 on the initiative of Odessa mayor - merchant Yakov Protasov. He was the first who proposed to open a girls' school, his idea was supported by Count Langeron.
The school was not a usual boarding school for that time: girls from all social categories could study for free, and did not have to live there, but came to lessons (like it is in modern schools). The school changed address several times, until in 1891, by the architect N.Tolvinsky's design, a building was set at Staroportofrankovskaya, 32. In 1889 Nikolay Tolvinsky received the first prize for this project. The building was designed for 270 pupils. It is a monument of architecture of local significance.
