2.5 million tourists have visited Odessa last year

The City Council summarized the results of 2017 on realization Program for development of tourism in Odessa for 2016-2020 and shared plans for 2018

In 2017 Ukraine was represented at the record number of international exhibitions (12 instead of the planned 2) in the cities of Berlin and Frankfurt (Germany), Beijing and Shanghai (China), Minsk (Belarus), Baku (Azerbaijan), Chisinau (Moldova), London (Great Britain), Warsaw (Poland), Izmir (Turkey), and also at two exhibitions in Kiev.

Odessa was presented at Chinese tourist market for the first time in 2017.
The simplified procedure for issuing visas for Chinese citizens at border checkpoints at the international airports Boryspil and Odessa promoted increase of tourists flow from China to Ukraine and in particular to Odessa.

In 2017, there were conducted 15 presentation tours for Ukrainian and foreign tour operators and media by Odessa and Odessa region (instead of 5 planned).

There were held 14 forums, conferences, seminars, roundtables, workshops instead of 3 planned.

Articles about the tourist attraction of Odessa were placed in 24 editions and the other mass media.

Last year Odessa attracted attention of such world-famous channels as: ВBC, ARTE Actions Culturelles. Cooperation with these channels is being conducted with the aim of promotion the city.

In addition, there is underway the active work on closer cooperation with the "Turkish Airlines", which takes the 1st place in Europe and 4th in the world by the number of destinations. An agreement was reached on placing information about Odessa in the on-board magazine "Skylife".

In 2017, there was continued work on development of international relations in various areas of activity. So, was held the signing of the Memorandum between Odessa and the Council of Europe on participation of our city in the National Network of Intercultural Cities of Ukraine (ICC-UA), which is part of the International Council of Europe's Intercultural Cities Program (ICC). Participation in the ICC Program gives an opportunity to expand the range of international relations, use resources, expert support, advice and know-how of European and national networks.

One of the first stages of cooperation with the ICC was the calculation of the intercultural index of cities by filling out a questionnaire.
Based on the results of the questionnaire analysis, Odessa was positioned:

• 17th among the 93 cities in the sample, with an aggregate intercultural city index of 70% (after Oslo (85%), Barcelona (72%), Dortmund (71%);

• 12th among cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants being ahead of Lisbon, Lublin and Strasbourg;

• 13th place - among cities with more than 15% of foreign-born residents, being ahead of Munich, Rotterdam and Bergen.

The International Tourism Week (April 10-15, 2018) will be held in Odessa for the third year in a row. The conference "International cooperation and partnership in the field of tourism" will be momentous event of the Tourism Week. During the conference, the invited experts will share best practices in the field of tourism on the international market and cooperation with international partners.
Improvement of the city’s infrastructure increases the tourist attraction of Odessa. The city government actively works on this task. Thus, was carried out reconstruction of: Potemkin Stairs, Tiraspolskaya and Starosennaya squares, the squares of Heroes-Pilots and Partisan Glory; were opened the Istanbul Park, the Skate Park in T. Shevchenko’s Park, new names of Odessa citizens on the Alley of Stars of Odessa. The reconstruction continues in: the Greek Park, the Vorontsovsky Palace and the Colonnade, the corner of "Old Odessa", etc.

In order to improve the tourist attractiveness, the quality of tourist services and the level of development of the tourist infrastructure of Odessa in 2018, it is planned to introduce new projects, along with the existing ones, in particular:
- installation of outdoor furniture after the competition for the best art objects (urns, benches, car stoppers);
- installation of a complex of tourist information panels with anti-vandal coating and their maintenance;
- promotion of Odessa abroad through the placement of outdoor advertising, as well as advertising on television, radio, in print;
- installation of copies of the tourist symbol of Odessa - sculptures "Anchor Heart" in the sister cities of Odessa: Istanbul, Piraeus, Regensburg and Marseilles.

In 2017 the number of direct flights increased, which allowed expanding the tourist opportunities of Odessa, making it more open and accessible destination. As a result, the passenger traffic of air tourists in 2017, increased by 36% in comparison with the previous one.
Today there are conducted 21 direct flights from Odessa International Airport.
Since February 2, a new flight Odessa-Sofia has been opened, and in the summer of 2018 it is planned to launch new directions - to Berlin, Frankfurt and Krakow.
In 2017, the number of hotels, hostels and apartments in Odessa was 291.
The tourist fee increased to 5.6 million UAH, which is 24.4%, or by 1.1 million UAH. more than in 2016.

In 2017 the number of tourists who visited Odessa was 2.5 million people, which is almost 1.5 times more than in 2015.
