On June 24, 2008, Odessa City Council’s Executive Committee adopted a Decision to erect a monument to Isaak Babel in Odessa on the grounds of the World Odessites Club’s address. This Decision also defined the terms and the program of the best project solution contest, and the composition of the jury consisting of 9 persons.
On May 15, 2009, the press-conference was held and the winner of the Contest was announced. The winning project has been presented by G. Frangulyan - sculptor (Moscow) and O. Lutsenko – architect (Poltava).
Contributions collection for erecting a monument to Isaak Babel continues.
The monument to Isaak Babel is planned to be installed to the 70th anniversary of the writer’s death – in January 2010.
The Odessites World Club is responsible for the project’s informational support and holding the international informational campaign in order to collect the charitable contributions at the accounts having been set up by Odessa City Council.
