March 24, 2017 the Mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic republic in Ukraine Mr. Georgios Poukamissas met in the Odessa city council.

The sides discussed the issues of cooperation in the field of maritime trade and economic, tourist, cultural and spiritual spheres.

The Ambassador arrived in Odessa in the framework of the celebration of the National holiday of the Hellenic Republic - the Independence Day, which is celebrated by the Greeks on March 25 since 1821.

«I have visited Odessa for the first time. It is a charming city. I have had the opportunity to touch the monuments, which are closely connected with the history of our country», - Mr. Georgios Poukamissas said.

The Filiki Eteria - a secret organisation working in the early XIX century, whose purpose was to establish an independent Greek state. Originally the headquarters of the organisation was in Odessa. The creation of the Filiki Eteria in the city (1814) forever linked the history of Odessa with the Revival of Greek, that became a special contribution to the development of friendly relations between Ukraine and Greece.
