Odessa got the invitation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe

The Mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov had a series of negotiations in Brussels aimed at the development of international cooperation

During official visit to Belgium the mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov met with Mrs. Emma Udvin the deputy of European Commissioner for European Neighborhood and Expansion Policy and the head of the European Trade Commissioner's Cabinet, Ms. Maria Asenius.

Gennadiy Trukhanov also met with the Mayor of Brussels, Mr. Ivan Mayor. During the meeting the sides discussed issues of cooperation in the field of public health. Odessa’s participation in the international intergovernmental organization - the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will be the first step in this direction.

"The mayor of Brussels has offered assistance to the accession to this organization. We accepted this invitation of course. Expanding of our capabilities today must not be only just a declaration on the paper. It is necessary today to fill sense in the application, deals and concrete actions ", - said Gennadiy Trukhanov.

The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is the pan-European political assembly representing local and regional authorities from the forty-seven member states of the Council of Europe. Its role is to promote local and regional democracy, improve local and regional governance and strengthen authorities' self-government, according to the principles laid down in the European Charter of Local Self-Government. It is made up of two chambers, the Chamber of Local Authorities and the Chamber of Regions and holds its plenary sessions twice a year at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg, where its permanent Secretariat is located.
