The mayor of Odesa got acquainted with the best practices of Marseille in development of the urban environment

During the visit to the French sister city, Gennadiy Trukhanov got acquainted with implementation of the project on redevelopment of depressed industrial and port areas of Marseille

On October 10 and 11, 2018, in the framework of the working visit to the French city, the mayor of Odesa Gennadiy Trukhanov got acquainted with Marseille’s best practices in modernizing urban space, developing transport infrastructure, planting greenery and improving the which large historical architectural area, size, buildings and population comparable to Odesa.

Gennadiy Trukhanov visited the new modern building “Tour de Marseillaise”, in which, apart from the offices of commercial companies, are going to place the offices of the City Council of Marseille, which are currently located throughout the city.

The Odesa delegation got acquainted with the implementation of the long-term project “Euroméditerranée”, which envisages a complete reorganization of depressed industrial and port areas, carrying the port out of the city, upgrading the airport and filling the vacant city space with business, cultural and tourist infrastructure. The project has financial support not only from the budget of the city and France, but is also invested by the European Union. As a result of implementation of such an ambitious project, Marseille should become the business and economic capital of the Mediterranean.

During the visit, the mayor of Odesa Gennadiy Trukhanov met with representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora of Marseille and expressed deep appreciation to Natalia Meyer-Dobryanskaya, head of the Marseille-Odesa Franco-Ukrainian Association, for a significant contribution to the preservation of Ukrainian identity in France and development of relations between the sister cities.
